Lee, Clinton to Discuss 6-Way Talks in Hanoi

A senior U.S. official says U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will meet with President Lee Myung-bak in Vietnam on Saturday to discuss the resumption of the six-party nuclear talks and other bilateral and regional issues.

Kurt Campbell, the assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs, told reporters Tuesday that the meeting will take place on the sidelines of the East Asian Summit in Hanoi.

Campbell said that Clinton hopes to hear Seoul's positions on its diplomacy with North Korea and to discuss the prospect for a resumption of six-party talks.

Regarding the apparent power transition to Kim Jong-un in North Korea, Campbell said that Washington has no special information about the power transfer, other than the facts already known to the public. He added that it will take a substantial period of diplomacy, interaction and consultations with friends and allies before any clear determinations can be made.
