Lee Discusses G20 Summit Collaboration with South African, Turkish Counterparts

President Lee Myung-bak discussed during a telephone call Wednesday with South African president Jacob Zuma collaborative measures for the successful hosting of the G20 summit to be held in Seoul in November.

Lee expressed his gratitude for South Africa’s substantial help in preparations for the summit, especially for its role as a joint chair of the team to push reform of the International Monetary Fund.

According to Presidential spokeswoman Kim Hee-jung, the Korean president asked South Africa to take an interest in devising an action plan for development, which is a key agenda at the upcoming G20 summit, citing its helpfulness to numerous African nations.

Zuma responded by expressing his gratitude for the results at the recently concluded G20 meeting for finance ministers and central bank chiefs in Gyeongju, South Korea. He also said the development agenda will be highly important at the G20 summit in Seoul.

Lee also discussed over the telephone with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan ways to collaborate on the development agenda at the upcoming G20 summit.

The phone conversations are the first of many that Lee is expected to have with counterparts from other members of the forum to solicit support for the upcoming session.
