President Lee Myung-bak has sent his condolences to those killed in the latest tsunami in Indonesia and their bereaved families via a message to Indonesia’s president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
In the message, Lee sent his best wishes for the Southeast Asian nation to overcome the damage from the earthquake and tsunami and for it to normalize soon, saying Seoul is ready to help.
The presidential spokeswoman Kim Hee-jung said that the South Korean government is on standby for Indonesia’s acceptance of aid from the international community and has begun working-level reviews on ways to send emergency relief.
According to local news reports, the tsunami, caused by an earthquake on Monday in West Sumatra of Indonesia, has claimed the lives of at least 112 people so far and left over 500 others missing.
