US Issues S.Korea Travel Alert for G20

The U.S. government has issued an advisory for Americans traveling to or residing in South Korea around the time of the Group of 20 summit in Seoul that opens November eleventh.

The statement issued by the State Department alerts "U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in South Korea to safety and security issues related to expected public demonstrations around venues for the G20 summit."

It says the "expected demonstrations will disrupt travel and have the possibility of becoming violent."

It also says that the U.S. Embassy in Seoul recommends that people avoid host sites including the COEX exhibition center in southern Seoul, areas near the summit sites, and areas where there are large gatherings or increased police presence.

The travel alert expires November 13th.
