The World Food Program's executive director, Josette Sheeran, is set to visit North Korea for two days starting on Tuesday.
The Voice of America said Saturday that Sheeran’s visit comes five years after her predecessor, James Morris, made a visit to the reclusive state in December 2005.
Sheeran said that during her stay she will meet with senior government officials and visit facilities for children near Pyongyang that are supported by the U.N. food agency.
Earlier during a news conference in Seoul on Thursday, Sheeran said she is "deeply concerned" about undernourished children in the North.
The Voice of America said Sheeran is the fourth high-level U.N. agency official to visit the North this year. United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Lynn Pascoe visited the North in February, World Health Organization Director-General Margaret Chan in April and Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Director Rashid Khalikov in May.
