Medvedev: Reform of Global Financial System Must Continue

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is stressing that the upcoming G20 summit in Seoul should focus extensively on ways to reform the global financial system.

Medvedev made the statement during an interview with Korean media organizations on Tuesday.

In particular, he emphasized the need to push ahead with measures to revamp the International Monetary Fund (IMF), adding that the roles of developing nations in the IMF must be expanded.

Medvedev attached particularly significant meaning to South Korea’s decision to have the issue of development on the G20 summit agenda. He said that South Korea, although not a member of the Group of Eight nations, has put forth a lot of interesting initiatives and made enormous efforts to establish relationships between non-G20 countries and business groups.
