Thai Military to Keep Seized NK Weapons

Thailand will reportedly distribute among its own military the North Korean weapons that were seized from smugglers on a Russian-made plane in late 2009.

The Bangkok Post is reporting that the 35-tons of weapons seized on December 12th in 2009 include rocket-propelled grenades and components of surface-to-air missiles.

According to the paper, national security officials in Thailand that it considered destroying the weapons but decided to use them for its own military to save on expenses and to develop its own military technological know-how.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sets forth that in the absence of the original owner of confiscated illegal weapons for one year, the nation that seizes weapons is allowed to keep the weapons.
