S.Korea to Hand over Remains of 8 Pirates to Somalia

The bodies of eight Somali pirates killed in the rescue operation for the “Samho Jewelry” on January 21st will likely be sent by South Korean authorities to Somalia.

A Foreign Ministry official in Seoul said Monday that the Somali government conveyed its intent on Sunday to receive the remains.
The two sides are expected to discuss related details.

The official, however, added that it could take a significant amount of time to actually complete the process of delivering the remains to Somali authorities.

He noted that Seoul needs to ask for the cooperation of Oman, which is where the remains are currently being held by South Korean authorities, and that detailed schedules must also be discussed with Somalia.
