The European Parliament’s International Trade Committee (INTA) has passed a motion on the European Union’s (EU) free trade deal with South Korea.

The committee approved the motion in a 21-4 vote during a meeting held in Brussels on Monday.

As a result, the European Parliament is expected to vote during a plenary session in Strasbourg, France, on Thursday of next week on the trade pact and a bill that would seek the implementation of safeguard provisions for the trade deal. The International Trade Committee earlier approved the safeguard bill on January 26th.

If the European Parliament passes the trade deal and the bill on the implementation of safeguard measures at its plenary session next week, then the EU will have completed all necessary preparations for the South Korea-EU FTA to take effect by the target date of July first.
