Two S.Korean Students Missing after Christchurch Quake

Two South Korean students have gone missing on Christchurch, New Zealand, following a six-point-three magnitude earthquake that struck the city on Monday morning, local time.

South Korea’s Foreign Ministry said that it received a report about the missing man and woman, both of whom were in their 20s and were participating in a language program there.

The ministry said the building which houses the language institute where the missing South Korean students were studying was destroyed by the earthquake, and that it remains uncertain whether they were inside the building when the tremor hit.

The ministry says there is a chance that the students could be buried under the debris.

About 100 people were rescued from the collapsed building where the language institute was housed.

A ministry official said the South Korean Embassy in New Zealand dispatched a consul to the island to assess the situation and the damage caused to South Korean nationals.
