Evacuation Plane to Arrive in Libya Thurs. Afternoon

People continue to desperately flee Libya where democratic protests have resulted in bloodshed.

Fifty-three South Korean workers reached a Libyan city bordering Egypt early Thursday, Korean time, and will head to Cairo in the afternoon.

A special chartered plane South Korea is sending to Libya to evacuate South Korean residents and workers there is expected to arrive in the country around 4:35 p.m. Thursday, Korean time.

The South Korean Embassy in Egypt says it has been given approval by Libyan aviation authorities to send the 260-seat chartered plane to the North African country.

After picking up the Koreans, the plane is expected to arrive at Cairo International Airport on Thursday night. Egypt has set up border camps and is accepting people fleeing Libya.

Currently, there are an estimated one-thousand-50 South Koreans staying in Tripoli and 340 in the port city of Benghazi.
