Japanese media say 47 bodies have been found so far in the Canterbury Television building in New Zealand’s quake-devastated city of Christchurch.

NHK, among other Japanese media, quoted local police as saying Friday that search and rescue workers found 23 more bodies in the building on Thursday, raising the total number of bodies found in the collapsed building to 47. The reports said the bodies have yet to be identified.

The Japanese media said that some 120 students were studying at a language learning institute inside the Canterbury Television building at the time the six-point-three magnitude tremor demolished the building. More than 70 of the students are estimated to be trapped inside.

The Foreign Ministry in Seoul said that the missing South Korean brother and sister are presumed to be among the students trapped under the debris.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility that the number of missing South Koreans from the quake could rise, as a list released by the language institute shows that three South Koreans, other than the missing siblings, were inside the institute when the building went down.
