US, S.Korea to Seek UNSC Statement on NK Uranium

U.S. State Department's special adviser for nonproliferation and arms control Robert Einhorn says Washington and Seoul will seek a U.N. Security Council (UNSC) presidential statement on North Korea’s uranium enrichment program (UEP).

Einhorn told reporters that the intention of the statement is to make clear that North Korea’s uranium program is in violation of UNSC resolutions and a 2005 disarmament-for-aid deal.

Prior to making the comments, Einhorn met with South Korea’s top nuclear negotiator Wi Sung-lac.

Einhorn also reaffirmed that Washington has no intention of deploying tactical nuclear weapons in South Korea.
