Ship Carrying Koreans from Libya to Arrive in Malta Fri.

South Korea’s “Choi Young” naval destroyer has left Tripoli and is headed toward Malta, carrying South Koreans who have been evacuated from Libya.

An official from South Korea’s Defense Ministry said Friday that the vessel, carrying 32 Koreans, left Tripoli at around 11 p.m. Thursday, Korean time.

The official said the Koreans began boarding the 45-hundred-ton destroyer at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, and that they have been given food and medicine.

The official said that the Choi Young is set to arrive in Malta’s Port of Valletta at around 2 p.m. Friday, Korean time.

The Choi Young was initially set to stop in Sirte and Misurata to pick up Korean and foreign workers of Korean construction companies. However, the destroyer only picked up Koreans from Tripoli after Seoul rented ships from Greece to evacuate the Korean and foreign employees of the construction companies in the two other Libyan cities.
