Chinese FM Repeats Call for Resumption of Nuke Talks

China has repeated its calls for an early resumption of the six-party nuclear talks.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Monday that relevant parties need to make more efforts to resume the stalled talks.

Yang said that the multilateral talks resulted in significant achievements --- such as the September 19th, 2005 Joint Statement --- and had positive effects on regional security by boosting exchanges among relevant countries.

Yang made the remarks at a news conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress.

Meanwhile, the minister dismissed reports of heightened tension in China following calls for antigovernment protests inspired by the uprisings in the Arab world.
