Campbell, Gregson to Visit Seoul Saturday

A top U.S. State Department official and a senior Pentagon official will visit the nation on Saturday.

The State Department announced on Tuesday that Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs Wallace Gregson will visit Japan, Mongolia and South Korea this week.

The purpose of the U.S. officials’ trip was not revealed. However, during their stay in South Korea, Campbell and Gregson are expected to discuss with Korean officials ways to jointly address North Korea’s uranium enrichment program and military provocations.

The two sides are also likely to coordinate views on the provision of food aid that has been requested by the impoverished North.

Campbell is expected to stay in South Korea until Sunday, while Gregson will stay until early next week.
