Daewoo Completes Evacuation of Workers from Libya

The evacuation of South Korean workers from Libya has effectively been completed.

Daewoo Engineering and Construction completed the evacuation of its workers from the North African country when a ferry carrying about 300 Daewoo workers arrived at the Greek island of Crete on Tuesday.

In the five-day evacuation in which three vessels were mobilized, about 170 South Koreans and some 25-hundred foreign workers safely arrived at the Greek island.

A minimum number of South Korean staff members, including some at the managerial level, remain at Daewoo’s construction sites in Libya.

Daewoo plans to take about 980 Bangladeshi workers home via two chartered planes, while the firm’s South Korean workers will return home via a Korean Air flight.
