Japan Declares Nuke Emergency after Quake

Japan has declared a state of nuclear emergency at a reactor following the massive earthquake on Friday.

Due to the quake, there was a leakage of radioactive materials at Fukushima Daiichi plant’s Unit One, some 250 kilometers northeast of Tokyo.

The Japanese government has also ordered about 80-thousand residents in susceptible areas to evacuate.

Authorities there said that the Unit One reactor could be on the verge of a nuclear meltdown but that any negative effects, should they occur, would only affect areas within a ten-kilometer radius of the site.
