S.Korea, Commonwealth to Hold Commemorative Events

An event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the British Commonwealth forces’ participation in the Korean War will be held in Paju and Gapyeong, near Seoul this weekend.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin will attend. Roughly 800 hundred people are expected to attend including veterans of the four British commonwealths, the U.K, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and their families.

The ceremony to remember the Battle of the Imjin River will be held at a U.K. forces memorial in Seolmari in Paju Saturday morning. An event commemorating the Battle of Gapyeong is scheduled for Sunday. A brief account of the battle given along with the playing of national anthems. The attendees will then visit the battles.
