Carter, Ex-Leaders to Visit NK Tuesday

"The Elders,” an independent group of former global leaders, says that ex-U.S. President Jimmy Carter and three other former leaders will visit North Korea on Tuesday for a three day trip.

The Elders said that Carter will be accompanied by former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari, former Irish president Mary Robinson and former Norwegian prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland.

The four-member group will first visit Beijing, China from Sunday through Monday and will stay in Seoul for Thursday and Friday.

The Elders said that the trip is aimed to discuss ways to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula and serious human rights conditions in the North.
