China continues to back inter-Korean dialogue in order to resume stalled six-party denuclearization talks.
China's top nuclear envoy Wu Dawei expressed his support on Wednesday in a meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan. Wu said that inter-Korean talks are necessary for denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula. He is currently in South Korea to discuss the resumption of the six-way nuclear talks.
Kim said that he hopes North Korea will engage in inter-Korean talks with a sincere attitude. He added that there should be no provocations by the North during the proceedings leading to the inter-Korean dialogue and the six-party talks.
A high-ranking South Korean official said this round of South Korea-China talks resulted in the bilateral agreement on the procedures and various processes leading up to the six-party denuclearization talks. The official said that the two nations also agreed that each phase of dialogue should be conducted sincerely.
