UNSC to Get Briefing on N.Korea Sanctions

The United Nations Security Council will hold a plenary session on the 17th and receive a briefing on the implementation of sanctions on North Korea.

This briefing comes about two months after South Korean and U.S. committee members took a different stance than China on the issue of adopting a report on the North Korean uranium enrichment program (UEP).

A South Korean Foreign Ministry official said that this briefing is a regular meeting, but that the North Korean UEP could be discussed in a variety of ways.

South Korea and the U.S. are seeking a U.N. Security Council (UNSC) presidential statement on North Korea’s UEP. This is to make it clear before resuming the six-party talks that North Korea’s UEP is in violation of the U.N. resolution.
