US-China Meeting to Address NK Issues

The United States plans to discuss issues related to North Korea with Chinese officials when the third meeting of the U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue opens in Washington next week.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell told reporters on Friday that the U.S. hopes to hold frank discussions with China on various issues, including regional matters. He added that the two sides will discuss issues concerning the North during the two-day meeting that will open next Monday.

Campbell said that the U.S. will make clear during next week’s talks the steps it hopes the North will take in the future.

He added that the two sides will review their progress on addressing issues related to the North based on an agreement reached between U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao during summit talks earlier this year.
