UNESCO to Decide on Register Inclusion of May 18 Records

UNESCO is expected to decide next week whether to include records related to the May 18th Gwangju Pro-democracy Movement in its Memory of the World Register collection.

According to the UNESCO Secretariat Wednesday, the organization’s International Advisory Committee will deliberate on whether to include the documents related to the movement when its general assembly convenes in Manchester in Britain on Sunday.

The committee is expected to unveil results of its deliberation by no later than Thursday of next week.

UNESCO's Memory of the World Register is a list of library and archive collections of global significance. It was established in 1992 to preserve and promote pieces of documentary heritage that are of universal value.
