The G-20 Speakers' Consultation meeting in Seoul ended Friday after delegates adopted a joint communiqué containing agreements among participating nations for anti-terrorism and common prosperity.
South Korea’s parliamentary speaker Park Hee-tae said in the closing address that the delegates from 26 nations had agreed to take on new global security threats, including terrorism and pirate attacks. The joint measures will be based upon agreements by the international community, including the United Nations.
In addition, the delegates agreed to produce recommendations that improve existing international measures in preventing the acquisition of nuclear materials by terrorist organizations at the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit to be held in Seoul, South Korea.
The international community will also reexamine existing nuclear safety standards following the recent accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan.
The Joint Communiqué also included calls for the development of preventive mechanisms for future contingencies, including the recent global financial crisis. They include the implementation of the G20 Development consensus for shared growth and a multi-year action plan on development for the shared growth of both developed and developing nations.
The delegates also agreed to hold the Speakers’ Consultation Meetings on a regular basis. The next meeting will be held in Saudi Arabia.
