G8 Summit to Extensively Discuss Political, Security Issues

The U.S. says that next week’s G8 summit will deal extensively with political and security affairs including the issue of North Korea.
Michael Froman, the White House’s deputy national security advisor for international economic affairs, said that the heads of the Group of Eight member countries will have extensive discussions on political and security issues at the gathering, which will be held on May 26 through the 27th in Deauville, France.
The agenda includes nuclear nonproliferation, terrorism and the problems of North Korea and Iran.
White House Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes said that U.S. President Barack Obama will discuss a new strategic arms reduction treaty with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
President Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan will discuss cooperation in the rebuilding of Japan’s earthquake-hit regions in their summit.
