South Korea's ambassador to Japan says he sees a high chance of Japan and North Korea talking to each other.

According to the South Korean Embassy in Tokyo, Lee Su-hoon made the remark on Tuesday in a lecture for a group of unaffiliated Japanese lawmakers from the House of Representatives.

Lee said both Pyongyang and Tokyo intend to meet with each other, adding he thinks it's better and also highly possible for the Japanese government to swiftly try to hold talks with the North.

He emphasized Japan’s political will to swiftly resolve the issue of the abduction of Japanese by the North in the 1970s and 80s.

He said the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and a process to bring permanent peace to the region are two wheels of the same cart, urging Japan to participate in the process more actively.
