Typhon Omais is forecast to land on South Korea's southern coast on Monday night, bringing heavy rains and strong winds.

This season's 12th typhoon is currently heading north toward the Korean Peninsula from the waters southwest of Okinawa, Japan.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said on Sunday that Omais is likely to pass the waters near Jeju Island on Monday afternoon and make landfall on the southern coast Monday night.

The typhoon is expected to bring heavy rains of up to or more than 400 millimeters to the southern coast and areas near Mount Jiri Monday and Tuesday.

Jeju Island and the southern areas are forecast to receive 100 to 300 millimeters of rain, while the central region is likely to be hit with 50 to 200 millimeters.

The typhoon is also forecast to bring strong winds of over 30 meters per second to Jeju and the southern areas of the nation.
