South Korean health authorities will announce next week COVID-19 vaccination plans for the fourth quarter including for teens, pregnant women and those who have yet to receive shots.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said Thursday the announcement slated for Monday afternoon will also include plans on booster shots.
The government has been holding talks with related bodies since a committee of experts advised last month to include expecting mothers as well as teens between the ages of 12 and 17 in its vaccination program.
The committee also recommended boosters for people who have been fully vaccinated for six months but said those with weak immune systems can receive them even before the end the half-year interval.
The state vaccine task force recently said it is considering providing boosters starting with seniors in high risk groups who received both shots during the first half of this year.
An advisory council for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has also advised third shots for people 65 and older and those at high risk of severe illnesses.
