New COVID-19 Cases Fall below 50,000, On-Week Rise Stops

Daily new COVID-19 cases fell below 50-thousand on Friday amid a winter resurgence of the pandemic.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on Friday, 49-thousand-418 infections were reported the previous day, including 66 imported from overseas, bringing the total caseload to over 26 million-462-thousand.

The daily tally dropped by some six-thousand from a day ago to fall below 50-thousand. The figure also fell by some five-thousand from a week ago, ending the continued on-week rise. From two weeks ago, it increased by about six-thousand.

The number of critically ill hospitalized patients fell by 15 from a day ago to 365, staying above 300 for two weeks.

Thursday added 63 deaths, raising the death toll to 29-thousand-925. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-11 percent.
